From: I live in Perth, Western Australia.

Current job: I am a Paediatric Intensivist at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children in Perth.

Role in Rwanda: As an intensivist, I will be managing the children post-operatively in intensive care.

What sparked your interest in being involved: Joining the team for Rwanda fulfils an ongoing interest in medical work in developing countries. Operation Open Heart is a well established and respected organisation which I am very happy to be working for.

Similar trips you’ve been on: I’ve previously worked with Operation Smile in Vietnam and found working in a challenging environment very rewarding, while at same time enjoying the experience of a different and fascinating culture. In the very distant past I spent some time teaching in Africa and am very much looking forward to returning to the continent.

Passions/interests: When I’m not working, I spend most of my time providing a dinner, washing and taxi service – it is yet to be seen if my children can survive while I’m away! I love water sports but they seem to be getting harder over the years – don’t know why that is..? I can’t go past dinner and wine with friends, but if I have any free time left over, you will find me planning the next trip away.
