Sarah Cherry
From: Sydney
Current job: Registered nurse, cardiac cath lab, Sydney Adventist Hospital.
Role in Rwanda: Ward registered nurse.
What sparked your interest in being involved: OOH Rwanda allows me to combine my loves of nursing, helping people and travelling.
Similar trips you’ve been on: OOH Fiji in 2007, Papua New Guinea in 2009 and this will be my third trip to Rwanda in 2010.
What you remember most from a previous trip: One of the biggest challenges was working in a ward where two new grads were in charge and where you relied on observations and instincts rather than just technology and pharmaceuticals to treat patients. One of the highlights was to team-lead on the night shift, and to realise what we had achieved, and also developing life-long friendships.
Passions/interests: When I’m not working, I’m likely to be on the basketball court! I play Waratah ABA for North Sydney, and play local competitions and referee. I am the Referee Development Officer at the Kings School. If I’m not there, I’m watching the footy or the V8 Supercars, or on the beach.
