Role in Rwanda: ICU Nurse

What sparked your interest in being involved: The opportunity to combine the love of my work with my love of travel!  The opportunity in work in challenging environments, overcoming obstacles and pass on some of our skills to those who can really use them; the knowledge that through the flip of a coin any one of us could have been born in a country with limited access to healthcare and be in similar circumstances to the patients we care for and their families.

Similar Trips that you’ve been on: Operation Open Heart Papua New Guinea, 2009; Operation Smile Vietnam, 2009 and East Timor, 2010

What you remember most from previous trips: The challenges and the hard work, but most of all the amazing sense of satisfaction in knowing we'd overcome a lot of barriers and really done some good- both for patients, their families, and for local staff; the hugs and broad smiles of gratitude from the Mother of one particular patient.

Passions & Interests: Travel, health care in developing countries, my work, reading, attempting to cultivate my veggie patch, catching up with friends and family....
