Current Position: Cardiac Clinical Coordinator / Operating theatre floor manager
From: Westmead Private Hospital / Sydney
Role in Rwanda: Scrub & scout nurse
What sparked your interest in being involved: I love being able to help others that have no access to health care let alone open heart surgery like we do in Australia. You know if you operate on someone you are at least giving them a chance to survive a little longer & supporting the little ones means you're helping them & the future of their families as well.
Similar Trips that you’ve been on: Vanuatu Fiji & India
What you remember most from previous trips: The teamwork is so obvious. We are all there for the same reason so we look out & care for each other, wait for each other. At home it's different & we often have different motivators (bills to pay, a holiday etc). On OOH trips we are there for only one main reason & that is to help others. The fun we have along the way is a bonus & to see the patients feeling better so quickly after surgery & give you that smile just makes it all worth while.
Passions & Interests: Helping others get the most out of life. Food, wine, music, netball & travel. Anything with an apple logo also gets me excited!
